The Batman Part II: Why 2027 Will Be the War of the Owls?

Gotham is far from done bleeding. The water from the first film barely drained, Matt Reeves is back with a cast that smells of blood. The Batman Part II filming starts, Charles Dance arrives — the Court of Owls is about to take the stage.

Charles Dance enters Gotham — the echo of a court never seen before.

Charles Dance Enters the Cage: A Game-Changing Cast

Charles Dance is Tywin Lannister. The calculating patriarch of Game of Thrones. The chief manipulator you never forget. On April 18, 2026, Deadline confirms: Dance lends his face to Christopher Dent, Harvey's father, in The Batman Part II. A character never adapted in live-action before.

Sebastian Stan already plays Harvey Dent / Two-Face. Adding Dance as a father figure means establishing a dynasty. A lineage. A powerful family that has weighed on Gotham for a long time — and may have access to circles never spoken aloud.

The timing reinforces the signal. Filming starts in June. No teaser at CinemaCon mid-April. Reeves locks everything down. When a name like Dance drops right then, it carries an intention.

Note: this is not the trailer for The Batman Part II — no official teaser for the sequel exists to date. We replay the main trailer of The Batman (2022) to recall the visual DNA on which Reeves will build the sequel.

From Godfathers to Shadow Families

The first film targeted Carmine Falcone, the surface godfather. Reeves pulled back the curtain on the old-school mob. The series The Penguin then established Oz Cobb as the new king of Gotham, in a flooded and kneeling city. Narrative logic: the sequel goes higher.

Higher means the elite. The silent families. The names you read on museum pediments. The Waynes. The Dents. The Cobblepots of old. This is exactly the territory Reeves has always said he wanted to explore: Gotham's rotten foundations.

Adding Christopher Dent — a political patriarch — to this grid is no longer a family. It’s a system. And a system can only be overturned when you identify who holds the leash.

What if the Court of Owls Was Finally Here?

Forums have been buzzing since the announcement. The Court of Owls, an aristocratic secret society from the Snyder-Capullo lore (DC Comics, 2011), has never been brought to the screen. And Christopher Dent’s profile — influential, rooted, manipulative — fits the mold.

The Owls are the elite who have ruled Gotham since the 19th century in the comics. Their assassins, the Talons, are near-indestructible undead. And their main weapon is silence — the kind that stretches over decades while the city believes surface criminals are running the show.

Reeves has confirmed nothing. But when an actor of Dance’s stature enters the Wayne orbit, you no longer bet on chance. You prepare for the awakening of a court that has never stopped watching.

The Court of Owls in 30 Seconds

An aristocratic secret society that has ruled Gotham since the 19th century in the comics. Created in 2011 by Scott Snyder and Greg Capullo in the Batman run (DC, New 52). Their assassins, the Talons, are near-indestructible undead. A chilling nursery rhyme haunts them: Beware the Court of Owls, that watches all the time…

Radio Silence: Why the Studio Locks Everything Down

CinemaCon 2026, mid-April. Warner Bros rolls out Supergirl, presents its 2027 titles… and keeps The Batman Part II silent. No teaser, no official image. The concept trailers circulating on YouTube? Fan edits — nothing from the studio. Reeves locks down.

In modern blockbuster mechanics, this silence is no accident — it’s a strategy. Reeves learned in 2022 that scarcity feeds the myth. First teaser drops a year before release. Main trailer six months before. Final reveal in the weeks before screening.

If the film releases on October 1, 2027, we won’t see anything official before late 2026 at the earliest. The court watches. So do we.

THE OWLS ARE WATCHING

Charles Dance never arrives by chance. When a patriarch steps on stage, an entire lineage is about to descend from Gotham’s wings. The Owls may never have been closer to coming to life on the big screen. The countdown begins.
