What the teaser posted on Instagram shows

On screen: a silhouette on a neon boat cutting through the black water, Toronto skyline in the background. No dialogue, no title card, no identifiable face. The post’s caption does all the info work: "a not so short film", directed and scored by "the family".

Shooting footage had already circulated a few days earlier on Lake Ontario, with the same boat and a camera crane. The rollout was meant to be mysterious, not airtight.

The voice-over and the two versions of a life

The female narration states the project’s thesis in a few sentences. She describes two versions of the same existence: one where you avoid risk and hold back your love, one where you finally find what you were looking for.

The title changes meaning in the process. FOMO is no longer the fear of missing a party or a drop. It’s the fear of missing your own life, played out on water you cross without seeing the shore.

Neither album nor clip: the object no one expected

Since August 12 and its vintage family photos captioned "FOMO 2026", the fanbase had decided: it would be a record. The CD case posted a few days later locked the theory. Everyone was wrong.

"A not so short film": what the announced format really means

The phrase is both a joke and information. Short film not so short: the film exceeds the short format without claiming feature length. No duration was disclosed, no technical sheet either.

The choice of distribution says as much as the format. An artist at the top of the commercial game delivers an unsellable streaming object, freely accessible on YouTube. It’s a statement before being a product.

After the triple album of May 2026

The timing explains the excitement. Drizzy just came out of the triple album Iceman / Habibti / Maid of Honour, released in May, and no one imagined him returning to a long format so quickly.

The answer lies elsewhere: a film, edited in a closed circle, without studio or star director in the credits. After saturating the year in volume, Drake changes terrain rather than pace.

What if the real stake of Fear of Missing Out was the music?

Three words hold all the suspense: "scored by the family". Drake has confirmed nothing, and that’s precisely the point.

Plot, lead role, duration: the unknowns that remain

Nothing has leaked about the story. It’s unknown if Drizzy holds the lead role or just appears, and no actor names have been announced. The duration also remains off the radar.

The most interesting reading remains. An artist who just crushed the year chooses to talk about what we miss by protecting ourselves. Beneath the water’s surface, there’s more than a style exercise.
