Disney+ sets the scene without detour. "Welcome to Chenoise prison: a place meant to guarantee order and discipline… Except here, those running the prison are also the first to bend the rules." The whole program is summed up in this sentence. The lock exists, no one uses it.

The series follows the only people who chose to spend their lives behind bars: the guards. Not the inmates, not the lawyers, not the families. The wardens. Those who open, close, count, recount — and mess up.

It’s a workplace comedy in uniform. The prison becomes an open space with bars, a coffee machine, and impossible colleagues. Prison life filmed like a staff meeting gone wrong.

From Corinne to JP: the cast that breaks the locks

At the top of the hierarchy, Corinne Maillard, played by Audrey Lamy. Director of the detention center, she watches over her inmates and team like an overbearing mother. Authority in hen mode. And everything changes the day her own son, with whom she has no contact, is incarcerated in her facility.

Jean-Pascal Zadi puts on the uniform of JP, the guard who dreams of being closer to inmates than to his colleagues. Alongside him, Benjamin Tranié as Jeff and Eva Huault as Stéphane Moreno, the new recruit who wants to prove everything. Four paths, one corridor, no chance it will hold.

Zadi doesn’t even try to save his character. He describes him in interviews as a total player, whom he absolutely dislikes. A confession that says everything about the playground John Wax gave his crew.

Why Surveillant could mark the Disney+ fall season?

Because the lineage is assumed. Disney+ claims for the series the irreverent tone of Tout Simplement Noir, the film that already brought together John Wax and Jean-Pascal Zadi. Same freedom, same lack of brakes, new setting.

Because the format is designed to be binge-watched. Eight episodes of thirty minutes, the exact length of a night that spirals out of control. Early feedback from Canneseries 2026 calls it a hilarious workplace drama, in the vein of The Office and Brooklyn Nine-Nine.

Surveillant at Canneseries: the first lock has been broken

The series went through the Canneseries 2026 festival before landing on the platform. Full-scale test, professional audience, a room that never gives gifts. It came out with reviews praising the comedic mechanics and a gallery of characters as excessive as endearing.
