The great comeback of Denim!

It hasn’t creased in decades. It? We’re talking about jeans, of course! Once reserved for cowboys and bad boys, it is now widely democratized. Sold at 2 billion units per year, it is the most worn garment in the world. And this year again, it’s setting social media and runways on fire.

Blue, pink, faded, slim, baggy, joggpant, in shorts or jacket version… Jeans are absolutely everywhere and have adapted to all styles. Invented in the early 1800s, it was only 150 years later that it began to find a place in our wardrobes. At its beginnings, denim fabric was appreciated for its durability and comfort and was quickly adopted by miners, cowboys, gold prospectors, and farmers who needed sturdy and practical clothing to carry out their daily tasks.

Symbol of a rebellious youth

In the 50s and 60s, it became a symbol of resistance and counterculture. Wearing jeans was a strong sign of protest and rallying to popular movements exploding worldwide. Jeans are therefore associated with people marching in the streets, and in this sense, one could say it is one of the very first streetwear garments! In fact, it was precisely at this time that the jeans fashion truly exploded among young people. Rock stars, actors like Marlon Brando or James Dean, and icons of the hippy movement also greatly contributed to making jeans an essential garment. In the 70s and 80s, top designers took over the phenomenon and made it more bourgeois. From then on, wearing jeans was no longer the privilege of the working class! The pants even became very trendy among the jet set! Over the past 40 years, jeans have undergone their own internal revolution. Cuts, fabric play, colors… everything has been rethought, but traces of what it was at the beginning remain. Indeed, it is not uncommon to find the 5 characteristic pockets on men’s or women’s jeans! High heels, cowboy boots, slides, sneakers… jeans go with everything and everyone customizes them according to their style!

From saloons to hip hop clips

Far from the wheat fields and saloons, jeans have, over the years, been adopted by everyone and now enjoy unanimous appeal! It’s no coincidence that street and hip-hop culture quickly integrated them as a common denominator. Very quickly, they appeared in 90s clips and were also worn by skaters in their baggy version for great freedom of movement. Adopted by many fashionistas, jeans gradually established themselves as a reference in streetwear wardrobes. It was therefore impossible for Project X Paris to miss this wave. In fact, our catalog includes more than 160 denim products, all available either in stores or on our website! To bring its personal and so characteristic touch, PXP also revisited jeans to give them an even more streetwear spirit. Among the flagship models are loose jeans, slim men’s jeans, and cargo pants for men, all available in various colors for men and women. Our favorite autumn colors? We totally fall for burgundy and dark beige! PXP, the number 1 brand for jeans and streetwear tracksuits, has also imagined a capsule collection called Mirror Denim, which blends the best of streetwear fashion references: denim and jogging. This collection, out of another time, made a strong impact by playing with genre mixing! The jogging bottoms, available for men and women, are two-tone and play with the patchwork trend. Thus, side pockets in blue denim pay homage to historic jeans. The rest of the collection fully embraces the concept, with t-shirts featuring a denim pocket on the chest and hoodies with two-tone hoods. It’s striking!

How to wear jeans?

Straight, flare, cargo… It has adapted to all seasons and reinvented itself to never bore us. But this timeless wardrobe basic must be accessorized if we don’t want it to become outdated. A comfy and unisex garment par excellence, both women and men wear jeans! And this is even truer with slim and skinny cuts that hug all shapes, even the most generous, to bring out the best. Whether faded or ripped, these jeans are must-haves and mix just as well with loafers as with sneakers. But the new king this season is the loose jeans. In light or raw color, it’s a winner! Indeed, it’s the pants that adapt to all styles and body types! For a “smart casual” look, pair it with derbies, a classic-colored shirt, and a blazer jacket. If you want a totally streetwear look, wear it with an oversized t-shirt, a hoodie, and colorful sneakers! You won’t be surprised to learn that it’s an iconic model in our collections, highly appreciated for its versatility but also very comfortable! Finally, baggy jeans are making a noticeable comeback among fashionistas who love the old-school look. For women, break the style with more fitted and ultra-feminine pieces like a crop top, for example! For men, go full bad boy by wearing it with oversized tops and a cap!

Jackets and shorts

Jeans jeans are far from finished charming and surprising us. They constantly renew themselves and will probably not leave our wardrobes anytime soon. To stay trendy, designers like Project X Paris must compete in creativity to influence tomorrow’s fashion.

So at PXP, we ride the total look trend! A few years ago, it was unthinkable to dress head to toe in total denim, but now it’s a must. But beware, a style mistake can happen quickly! Look at the it-girls who have adopted this inspiring look without hesitation. Why not pair high-waisted jeans with a tight white top and a basic denim jacket? Stunning! On the men’s wardrobe side, it’s the same, and the boldest can also play with the tie and dye trend by pairing the jacket with camouflage-style pants featuring the same patterns!

For summer outfits, we adopt denim shorts without delay! Like its not-so-distant cousin, the pants, it adapts to many styles. Men’s denim shorts evoke summer days when all you want is to lounge in the sun sipping a good cocktail! For a perfect pairing, match them with pastel-colored t-shirts or ultra-stylish short-sleeved shirts.

As for women’s cuts, they tend to be higher waisted or shorter, but the latest trend is denim bermuda shorts. This ultra-trendy cut, from the 90s, has appeared on all fashion influencers’ social media! To wear it without a faux pas, choose slim or even with a slightly destroyed look but definitely not baggy! Pair it with mules and a crop top, and voilà, a perfectly calibrated look!

You got it, jeans are a timeless all-rounder that can be ultra-trendy if you know how to pimp them!
