Rim'K, the 94 in person

Few rappers have embodied a department to this extent, spreading its mentality throughout France. Rim'K is part of this exclusive club, and the rap game boss has proudly represented his 94 throughout his career. Naturally, for Project X Paris, it was the ideal collab! A legendary photoshoot to honor the ambassador of Mafia K'1 Fry.

Rim'K, the Hyphen of French Rap

In over 35 years of history, French rap has witnessed many fabulous stories and incredible adventures, resulting in many respectable careers. But few stories are as beautiful as Rim'K's. Born in the Paris region in the late 70s, he is today one of the most respected rappers in the game, with a long and successful career. First in a group, but also solo. He has crossed all eras, always managing to stand out, and above all, remaining appreciated by almost everyone. The Uncle of French Rap has been a true hyphen in the game. A hyphen between the neighborhoods and the rest of France, to start. Because the "Mafia K'1 Fry" mentality, a collective that brought together rappers of multiple origins, touched much more than just the French suburbs; it reached the entire country. This idea that together, we go much further and can overcome anything inspired thousands of young people.

But also a hyphen between France and "le bled". In fact, it is thanks to "Tonton du Bled," a track on 113's album "Les Princes de la ville" (a true classic of French rap, produced by the late DJ Mehdi), that the rapper and his group became known throughout France. Initially reserved for rap fans, the 113 phenomenon forcibly imposed itself on the country’s eyes, arriving in a Peugeot 504 on the Victoires de la musique stage to collect their trophy in 2000. With this track, Rim'K cultivates the image of an ambitious young man determined to succeed in the country where he was born, but very proud of his dual culture and proudly claims it, being both French and Kabyle, just like Zidane. Another common point with the football legend, Rim'K is also a real star, with his impactful rap, both full of humor and very street, and tracks that leave a mark: "Au Summum," "Jackpotes 2000," as well as others like "Hold UP" with Intouchables and "Banlieue" with Booba. Each time, the Uncle continues to leave an even stronger impression, with this nickname becoming official and a stature that is increasingly respected.

He then shines as a solo artist, since the Mafia K'1 Fry and 113 sides become less active. And the uncle takes advantage of his solo career to become the hyphen between all generations of French rap, having experienced it all. Broad commercial successes, like with "Maghreb United" in 2009, where he gathered many artists with big hits. More confidential releases, like "Chef de Famille" in 2012. Then a true musical renewal where he adopts the sounds of the new generations of French Rap, with resounding success. First in the "Monster Tape," then in "Fantôme," a real hit (filled with features with "young" artists like Sadek, SCH,...), followed by "Mutant" in 2019. An album that cements Rim'K's new success and decorated him with a diamond single, thanks to the feature with Ninho, "Air Max." A hit that shows the Uncle is truly the coolest guy in the big French rap family, always up to date, cheeky as in his early days, with both feet firmly rooted in the neighborhood. "Midnight" and "ADN" will also be two very good albums, mixing styles between old school, Trap, and drill, now an essential new trend. Rumor has it he might release an album by the end of the year, although nothing has been announced by his team yet. In any case, we are likely to hear about Uncle Rim'K for a long time, and that’s something we at Project X Paris are very happy about.

Rim'K and Project X, the Most Authentic Collab

We very recently collaborated with the rapper, and it’s a partnership we are very proud of. We had not yet had the chance to work with artists who experienced the old generation of Rap but also the early days of streetwear in France. So we decided to go for a rather elegant, classy, simple, and effective photoshoot to respect the OG that is Rim'K. But we still wanted to treat him well and give him a nice memory of this shoot, by bringing a beautiful piece that he really liked: an authentic Rolls Royce, in front of which the Uncle poses, not hesitating to sit inside. We opted for a very light streetwear outfit to contrast with the dark exterior colors of the car: a beige multi-pocket workwear jacket, with matching beige multi-pocket workwear pants. An outfit that highlights workwear, one of the oldest components of streetwear. Under the jacket, you can see a white Project X Paris Signature t-shirt, with the logo in black, the star product of our brand.

We stay in workwear, but completely change the vibe to something more underground, a bit less flashy, a bit less Rolls. This time, heading to a warehouse redecorated for the occasion, in "chill studio" mode with a big old-school leather sofa, some TVs, and speakers. And in the middle of all that is Rim'K, who this time wears a two-tone black and white outfit. A black multi-pocket workwear jacket over a white t-shirt. For the bottom, the same color alternation with black multi-pocket workwear pants, and a pair of white Air Force 1. We added to the outfit a black Monogram bag from PXP, for the little street adventurer touch. And that’s it! An outfit both sober and classy, matching well with the Uncle’s sunglasses.

Finally, a last look a bit more casual, but still inspired by the street, with this phone booth where Rim'K sits like the prince of his city. No risky attempts here either, we stay elegant and sober, with a unisex white crewneck sweatshirt signature, an essential of our brand. We also have beige cargo pants for the bottom, which transition well with the rapper’s white Air Max sneakers. The look matches particularly well with the tones of the decor, and the rather light outfit will be a hit for your cooler summer evenings. If you ever go to colder places, we also had Rim'K wear the quilted Teddy jacket, in greige.

At Project X, we are very happy to work with a boss like Rim'K, and we also announce that a new kind of collaboration with him is coming very soon, stay tuned.
