The only French stop: why Paimpol matters in the global network

The Meeting of Styles is not just another festival. Born in Germany in 1997, the event has spread to about thirty countries, weaving a network where writers cross continents. France had no entry point until 2023, when that door became Paimpol.

A town of 7,000 inhabitants as the sole French relay in a global circuit: the contrast is what makes it special. Here, no megacity or anonymous wasteland. Graffiti is painted on inhabited building walls, often provided by Terres d'Armor Habitat, just meters from windows and passersby.

The leadership is handled by the TSFcrew, a Breton collective with over thirty years of spray can experience, supported by the D6 Project association. Selection goes through the global Meeting of Styles platform — often over 1,000 applications — before a local decision aiming for diversity in nationalities, styles, and genres. Established artists first, but the door remains open to local talents.

From Berlin to the whale, the legacy of three editions

Three summers, three layers. The first edition, in August 2023, transformed the city into an open-air gallery and attracted over 2,500 visitors. In 2024, the momentum grew: nearly 72 artists, about 2,000 m² of painted walls across four neighborhoods. In 2025, around fifty writers from seventeen countries extended the urban fresco.

Some pieces became landmarks. The Goas Plat whale established itself as a local marker, preserved while other walls were covered. Champ de Foire, Quinic walk, Lanvignec, Marcel-Cachin street: neighborhoods turned into spots, recently mapped by a dedicated app that even tracks erased works.

2026 edition: the walls, the artists, and the Quai Loti village

The fourth edition is confirmed from August 21 to 23, 2026, with its festival village set up on Quai Loti. The program stays true to its backbone: live painting, in real conditions, on about fifteen to twenty walls — new frescos and overlays combined.

Around the scaffolding, the city comes alive. Hip-hop concerts and DJ sets, street performances, graffiti workshops, cultural walks in the neighborhoods: the Meeting of Styles has shifted from a pure writers’ festival to a more family-friendly happening, open to music, live shows, and video mapping. The 2026 call also targets local talents in graffiti, circus, and stage arts.

Regarding the line-up, about 72 artists from 26 countries are expected — from the United States to Chile via Egypt. The partial program already includes names like Ivo.Sko, LOST.OPTICS, Pavel Jones, Dyre, FIBZ, JahOne, and Remi Cierco. Respect for Paimpol’s maritime history and its inhabitants remains the only constraint: no imposed theme, but a clear framework.

Why do frescos disappear from one year to the next?

This question unsettles newcomers and defines the festival. In 2025, nearly 80% of frescos were covered. Destroy to create: the paradox is embraced. The city cannot saturate, and the blank wall is part of the game.

At Project X Paris, we read this rotation for what it is: the very DNA of graffiti. The piece is not an object to preserve under glass; it is a dated gesture, doomed to give way to the next. The wall transforms, like the scene that gave birth to it.

What remains is a legacy that does not fade: the Meeting of Styles France app and website archive covered works, artists, and information. Memory replaces preservation. The wall becomes white again, but nothing is truly lost — and that is where Paimpol found its signature.
