The ramparts of Carcassonne blaze at dusk. On the millenary stone, another story is written — that of a citadel that French rap is storming, microphone in hand. In July 2026, the Festival de Carcassonne hosts its densest rap lineup: Bigflo & Oli, Booba, Alonzo, Bouss. Four names, four breaches in the fortress.

Bigflo & Oli, July 17: the Toulouse duo opens the breach
First cannon shot on July 17 at 10pm. Bigflo & Oli drop their mic in the city with energy we know by heart: family, irony, pop melancholy. The Toulouse duo no longer needs to prove themselves — nonstop hits, XXL tours, festival tickets flying off in hours.
The Théâtre Jean-Deschamps format changes the game. Reduced capacity, open sky, cold stone behind the stage. The Toulouse brothers will deliver their classics and fresh material from their latest rollout. Fredz opens the show as the opening act — a choice that says a lot about their reading of the emerging French scene.
A must-see: Bigflo & Oli, Dommage — the single that launched their mainstream career.
Booba in Carcassonne, the Duke’s debut in the citadel
On July 23 at 9:30pm, the cage falls. Booba takes over the Medieval City for the first time, alone on stage, mic in hand. The Duke of Boulogne arrives in a format he rarely visits: about 3,000 spectators, open sky, just flow and ramparts.
We’re talking about an artist who redefined French rap codes for over twenty years. Temps Mort, Ouest Side, Lunatic — the B2O grammar imposed itself without compromise. Carcassonne marks a turning point: the Duke comes in statement mode, in a setting contrasting with his usual arenas. The citadel belongs to him for one night.
Alonzo + Bouss, July 25: the Marseille night at the foot of the ramparts
Saturday, July 25, double lineup, double Marseille. Alonzo goes on first at 8:30pm, Bouss follows at 10pm. Single price €59 for both. It’s the hottest rap night of the festival — and probably the most tense ticket-wise.
Alonzo is the legacy. Founding member of Psy 4 de la Rime, over twenty years of career, a discography that weighs heavily in Marseille rap history. Bouss is the current shockwave — a phenomenon filling Bercy repeatedly. The passing of the torch between two generations, under the ramparts. You know what happens in these cases.
Why does Carcassonne change the game for rap?
The Festival de Carcassonne is not a rap festival. It’s an eclectic event — variety, French chanson, rock, classical, opera, dance — taking place from July 1 to 31, 2026 in the Medieval City, UNESCO listed. Rap is invited like a distant but legitimate cousin. And in 2026, it occupies four major dates.
The main venue, the Théâtre Jean-Deschamps, seats about 3,000 to 5,000 outdoors depending on configuration. Nearby, the Festival OFF offers hundreds of free shows in the Bastide. And what remains in the end is this image: illuminated ramparts behind the stage, stone reflecting sound, night closing everything. At Project X Paris, we see this kind of lineup as a rare staging ground.
DID YOU KNOW?
The Medieval City of Carcassonne has been a UNESCO World Heritage site since 1997. With its 52 towers and double surrounding wall, it is one of the best-preserved fortified cities in Europe — and probably the most unique backdrop of all French festival programming.

THE STAGE FIT
Carcassonne 2026 imposes a particular visual equation: contemporary streetwear facing medieval stone. Each announced artist arrives with their uniform — loose leather for the Duke, light and casual tones for the Toulouse brothers, total black and heavy chains for Marseille. The cold stone of the ramparts contrasts with oversized cuts, technical fabrics, sharp colorblocks. This is what French streetwear does best: hold the stage without overdoing it, and let the setting finish the job.
RAP TAKES THE CITY
Bigflo & Oli, Booba, Alonzo, Bouss: four breaches in a millenary fortress, four nights that could change the reading of the Festival de Carcassonne. The citadel just has to wait for the assault — the countdown is on.
