Ronisia, the princess of Grigny

The era of RnB singers invited just to do the choruses is over. In recent years, a new generation of female artists is determined to show that they too can play leading roles in the urban music industry, while maintaining a much less tame and polished image than in the past. A generation without compromise to which Ronisia belongs, a young artist with many facets and an already impressive CV.

An admirable journey It hasn’t been easy for women in urban music in France. Although female artists have always existed, even in the early days of French rap, their place was often behind the scenes, in the shadow of success and the media. Undervalued, they had to wait for Diam's before one of them finally broke through into the spotlight. But it was much later that the industry accepted that they could highlight their femininity, use their sexy side as a weapon, or even have the right to do egotrip in their music, a rather arrogant exercise long reserved for men. Fortunately, in 2022, barriers seem to be shattering and many artists are rushing through the breach opened by Aya Nakamura, towards uninhibited, natural music, sometimes very raw, sometimes very girly. Ronisia is part of this new generation, and she is one of the most successful with about twenty clips on Youtube exceeding a million views, and numerous certifications for several singles.

If the young singer is doing so well, it’s no accident. To start with, she comes from Grigny, a city well known in France especially for its working-class neighborhoods that have produced many artists and top athletes. The 91 department, more broadly, is a true talent reservoir and a real artistic and cultural buzz has taken place there for many years. Ronisia, of Cape Verdean origin, is not even 23 yet but has a solid CV and just released this year her first real solo album, simply titled “Ronisia.” Although she officially started music in 2019, it was the following year that she gained fame with the hit single “Atterrissage.” A track that went viral very quickly on social media, especially TikTok, with a challenge in homage to the song trending for quite a while. It’s hard to follow up such a brutal success; people expect you to deliver and you can quickly fall into the trap of wanting to reproduce that winning formula. But the singer quickly diversified and showed she was versatile.

Since her beginnings, collaborations with major names in French rap or music have multiplied, such as with Ninho, for example, Tiakola, but also Joé Dwèt Filé, Dadju, Imen ES and many others. Embodying a determined young businesswoman character, with crazy charm, who won’t be distracted by the pettiness of some men, she has a very endearing “bad girl” side. She also showed she mastered modern communication codes very well, with a well-stocked and regularly updated Instagram account. And after this first album finally released, we hope to see her multiply collaborations again in the near future. With her Afro-Caribbean melodies, Ronisia has incredible potential to make her music cross borders, but mastering her image can also open unexpected doors.

The PXP & Ronisia collaboration At Project X Paris, we have a soft spot for strong personalities, as we have seen with our various collaborations. The one with Ronisia is no exception. But our work was greatly facilitated by the singer’s ease in front of the camera. A true professional model, who perfectly moves between very street outfits and more elegant ones for our greatest pleasure. We mentioned earlier the mastery of her image, and we are right in the middle of it from the very first outfit. It is a look inspired by the “Patchwork” capsule, dominated by the colors and textures of jean and denim. A combo not easy to wear but the singer pulls it off wonderfully, with a smile that would melt anyone. On top, there is a blue denim patch jacket, a reworked jean jacket by our designers. All worn over a white t-shirt with a rather discreet logo. Below, pants that look like jeans but are actually elastic for more comfort and again featuring patches and denim style, all paired with a nice pair of black sneakers.

After this first very original but effective outfit, we focused a bit more on the “Patchwork” capsule, aware that we could still tap into Ronisia’s potential to enhance the pieces. This was the case with this beige color-block shirt worn with a pretty white crop top, beige cargo-style pants, a pair of light sneakers this time, to better fit the vibe, and a baseball bat, giving her a “Bad Girl” side already well exploited in some of her songs. With pieces that can be tricky to wear, the singer manages to convey a lot and perfectly adapts to the outfit and the mood, and this outfit is perhaps the most successful of the shoot.

Even if the third outfit is worth seeing, because this time, the “bad girl” street side is gone and replaced by a much more girly, chic look. But even in a more classic outfit, Ronisia continues to surprise and seduce with clothes that could perfectly be worn in the evening. With her tight black dress with a chest cutout, the singer is likely to attract all eyes with the curves of her silhouette highlighted by the tight fit. A small essential touch of coquetry, the black crocodile-effect handbag, as well as black sneakers to complete the look with a really successful overall effect. We hope to do this again very soon with the singer because as you have seen, she poses like no one else and doesn’t need to do much to make an outfit incredibly effective!
