Varela-Gallon: the clash of generations in the Bordeaux cage
On one side, Wilson "The Prototype" Varela, reigning lightweight Hexagone MMA champion. A striker rooted in kickboxing before lighting up the cage. On the other, Davy Gallon, Norman veteran, judoka turned formidable grappler, 21 wins in 31 fights. Two schools, a Winamax €100,000 tournament semi-final, and a ticket to the final at stake.
Varela advances like a forge heating up. Sharp strikes, raw explosiveness, the confidence of a champion fresh from a victorious cycle. Gallon is no soft challenger. At 37 years old, he has passed through Bellator, beaten Ross Pearson in 2019, and strung together wins up to his victory over Mathias Poiron in March 2026. He arrives in Bordeaux with the patience of a seasoned pro — and the hunger of an underdog.
The fight won’t be about style. It will be about a filter. Varela must prove he can break a guard that has withstood dozens of assaults. Gallon must prove he can still bring down a champion who has no time to hesitate. Between them, the cage.
From Caen to Cape Verde, one belt and two colliding paths
Wilson Varela was born in Cape Verde in 1995. He grew up in the pure discipline of kickboxing, established himself on the European scene, then shifted to MMA with the mindset of a fighter who wants no borders. His stint at KSW gave him international exposure. His return to Hexagone was a statement.
On March 29, 2025 in Poitiers, "The Prototype" caught Nicolae Bivol by triangle submission in the first round. He left the arena with the lightweight belt around his waist. It was his 13th pro win. Since then, he defends, outsmarts, consolidates.
Gallon has a different biography. Caen, Normandy, 1989. Judo from age 5, French junior selection, transition to BJJ and kickboxing. Over fifteen years of professional MMA, a Bellator contract, rings and cages wherever the glove weighed heavy. He arrives in Bordeaux with the technical baggage of a man who has seen it all — except maybe the Hexagone belt around his waist. That’s exactly what he’s here for.
A must-see: Davy Gallon in action for Bellator, before his return to Hexagone.
Why will Arkéa Arena become the cauldron of French MMA?
Hexagone MMA is no stranger to Bordeaux. On May 24, 2025, the league placed its cage in the metro area for the very first time. A year later, it returns. This time, the edition is designed as a confirmation — not a test.
On the program: ten fights, the two lightweight Winamax tournament semi-finals, a world championship on the card, an XXL show, and exclusive broadcast on RMC Sport in France. Internationally, DAZN takes over in over 150 countries. When the cage lights up, Bordeaux will be on every fight TV worldwide.
Did you know?
Hexagone MMA signed a partnership with DAZN to extend its broadcast to over 150 countries. Each Bordeaux gala becomes an international showcase for French MMA — the cage changes venue, the audience changes scale.
Arkéa Arena has the architecture needed for this kind of evening. Refined acoustics, fight configuration, immediate proximity between the audience and the cage. The cauldron is ready to boil. Can you feel the heat already?
Tickets, broadcast, schedule: everything you need to know before entering the cage
Ticketing is open. Prices start at 29 euros, with premium seats rising depending on placement. The event opens at 7:00 PM on Friday, May 29, 2026. Venue: Arkéa Arena, 48-50 avenue Jean Alfonséa, 33270 Floirac. Tram A access from Bordeaux center, parking on site.
For broadcast, no hesitation: RMC Sport holds French exclusivity for several seasons. Abroad, DAZN covers the rest of the globe. If you can’t be at the venue, the broadcast starts from the first fights on the card — better to anticipate subscription.
One tip: don’t wait on ticketing. Previous Hexagone MMA editions at Arkéa Arena sold well. With a main event for a belt and a lineup of ten fights, demand will rise fast.
BORDEAUX IN FUSION
On May 29, the Bordeaux forge heats to white hot. One belt, two paths, ten fights to shake the cage. The countdown has already begun.
