Spring in Pantin: two weeks where dance ignites
Since 1997, the Moov'N Aktion association has organized this must-attend event every spring for those who live hip-hop culture. Festival Tanz is two weeks where the stages of the 93 switch to a different rhythm.
Concerts, choreographic shows, battles, workshops, exhibitions, screenings: the program covers the full spectrum. Not a single format, not a single style — the entire urban culture takes the stage. At Project X Paris, we resonate at this very moment: it’s when dance stops being a show and becomes a common language again.
The rest of the year, hip-hop culture infuses the capital solo. In May, it returns to the collective and raises the temperature by one notch.
From the CND to the Ourcq quays, dance takes to the streets
The National Dance Center in Pantin remains the festival’s historic HQ. But Tanz doesn’t limit itself to stages: the 93 is the real setting. Bobigny, Bagnolet, and other cities in the department play their part as stops.
The main public highlight remains the 1 km of dance: a day when the quays of the Ourcq canal, from the CND to Place de la Pointe, transform into an open stage. Free, horizontal, popular. It’s where the public meets companies, crews, and curious onlookers.
Dance changes address. It’s no longer confined — it circulates.
Battles, concerts, workshops: the Tanz melting pot in five acts
Each edition brings together five families of formats: battles where crews face off, choreographic shows by emerging companies and legends, concerts that awaken the rap and electro scene, workshops where the public dances alongside pros, and screenings that document the culture.
You come for a battle, leave with a concert in your head and a workshop planned for the next day. That’s the Tanz melting pot: a constant flow between stages, disciplines, and audiences.
In previous editions, figures like Ousmane Sy (ALL 4 HOUSE) have marked the program. The festival remains a must-see filter to read the French house and hip-hop scene.
