Five years of silence: the awakening of a giant
Season 1 ended in March 2021, after 170 episodes. Since then, nothing on TV. The shonen monster fell asleep while the manga caught up.
This silence was not an end. It was a calculated hibernation. Pierrot preferred to wait rather than stretch the story thin, a disease that affects many adaptations launched too quickly.
Result: Yūki Tabata's manga ended at chapter 392 in May 2026, with the final volume and official guidebook following. The narrative arc is complete. The giant can wake up knowing exactly where it’s going.
From the Spade Kingdom to the gates of hell
Season 2 reopens the grimoire on the Spade Kingdom Raid arc. For much of the community, it’s the peak of the entire series. The moment when the story shifts into another dimension.
On the menu: the Dark Triad — Dante, Vanica, Zenon — and the Qliphoth ritual aimed at opening the gates of hell. Yami and William are kidnapped. The stakes are no longer local; they become existential.
It’s also the arc of duels that obsess fans. Magna versus Dante, the ultimate outsider fight. Noelle against Vanica, her revenge and her passage to the Saint Stage. So many showstoppers just waiting to come back to life on screen.

The first episode of season 2 was previewed at Anime Expo 2026 on July 4, in the presence of director Ayataka Tanemura and Gakuto Kajiwara, the Japanese voice of Asta.
Why this season 2 could become the series’ peak?
Because it brings together everything that was missing before. A finished manga, a clear direction, and a bold ambition to hit harder than season 1.
The heart of the awakening is Asta in Devil Union. His full demon form, fusion with Liebe, already at the center of the main visual and trailer. The first episode opens with training with Nacht to unlock this power. The beast is out of its cage.
Around him, the Black Bulls return in full force, supported by the Heart Kingdom. The rivalry between Asta and Yuno remains the red thread. Everything is in place for a crescendo that manga readers await like a resurrection.
Studio Pierrot, 2026 vintage: animation steps up
Ayataka Tanemura is no stranger to the license. He already directed the end of season 1 and the film Sword of the Wizard King (2023). He knows the terrain.
His promise: a "powered-up" version, with Tabata’s green light to make the fights "extra cool." The tighter seasonal format, like Pierrot’s Bleach: Thousand-Year Blood War, finally allows time to polish every shot.
