Ronisia, the hip-hop phenomenon

Among the most striking musical phenomena that have crossed urban cultures over the last 15 years, the wave of African sounds in pop, rap, or RnB is perhaps the most significant. We remember the pioneers Bisso Na Bisso in the 90s/2000s, but it was truly MHD who converted all of France to Afro sounds through his series of tracks "Afro Trap." Shortly after, Aya Nakamura brought Afro sounds to pop/RnB. A more than successful experiment, as the singer became a true star, even managing to export herself internationally, both in Africa and the United States, where she is also highly appreciated. She was even invited to Coachella, the famous festival. But beyond her music, it’s also the personality she reveals in her songs that makes her successful: confident, not hesitating to use raw words, playing a lot on her seductive side but also extremely hard to conquer, in short, a strong woman who knows what she wants and is determined to get it. Much like many American female rappers.

Young Ronisia fits into this tradition of ambitious businesswomen who know the streets, know life and how men work, and won’t be fooled. Another common point is that she is also a big fan of African or Caribbean melodies. The 23-year-old singer, of Cape Verdean origin, grew up in Grigny, Essonne; a major hub for rap and popular music in general. It’s especially one of the largest talent pools in the Paris suburbs: singers, dancers, influencers, athletes, but also many entrepreneurs, as in all the neighborhoods of Île-de-France. The singer officially started music in 2019, at only 20 years old, with her first single "Plus de Peine." A small success, but not enough to satisfy the artist, who kept releasing singles until the real breakthrough with the release of "Atterrissage." A rhythmic track with a catchy chorus and themes that particularly resonate with young women. All the ingredients for the song to become a hit, but for that, it needed a medium, a platform. That platform was TikTok, where the track quickly went viral, to the point that an "Atterrissage Challenge" was even launched on the network. Many people started filming themselves listening to the song while reproducing the little dance steps Ronisia did in her clip.

A clip that now has 55 million views, just that. But the singer didn’t stop there. As we said, she has big ambitions and quickly released other tracks, other singles, each gathering several million views. She also multiplied collaborations, in pop, RnB, but also with some rap game heavyweights, like Ninho for example, on the track "Suis-moi." Thanks to all this, she reached another level and even released a solo album in 2022, "Ronisia." For a first official solo album, the achievement is truly impressive, and the singer shows real mastery of her voice and persona, as well as a real ease in front of the cameras, as seen in her various clips. A true 2.0 success that made her a media darling, even appearing on Canal +’s Boite à Questions. But also on Clique, Melty, Views, etc. With almost 500,000 followers on Instagram (and nearly as many on YouTube), it’s clear Ronisia pays attention to her image, and that really interests us!

Ronisia & PXP, the obvious choice

We know that image is part of the toolkit for today's artists, especially in the era of music videos and social media. Ronisia has understood this well, showcasing it on her Youtube channel as well as on Instagram: she knows fashion, style, but she also knows how to pose while staying as natural as possible. We had the chance to observe her during the photoshoot that took place with her.

At Project X Paris, we like to treat artists like real professional models, but with her, we didn't need to insist. This ease in front of the camera seems natural, you would think she has been doing this all her life alongside her singing career. It must be said that the looks offered are really effective and seem to capture the different facets of her personality, like the “bad girl” look that suits her so well. A shirt with beige color blocks, in a “panelled” style, with beige cargo-style pants, a white crop top, and a baseball bat as a warning. The singer has an amazing attitude with this outfit, the try is really very successful.

Since we were talking about panels, let's continue with the second outfit, which is also directly inspired by this capsule that is among our most iconic at PXP. The outfit is however more extravagant and Ronisia pulls it off brilliantly once again. The idea of the light blue background, with the decor elements matching the clothes, really highlights the singer. For the top, we have a denim panelled jacket, with a white logo printed on the left shoulder and chest. We also have a white t-shirt, to keep warm under the jacket. For the bottom, denim panelled style pants matching the top. It is a piece that is both very stylish and very comfortable, close to jogging bottoms when worn thanks to its elasticity. All this, without any compromise on elegance. Again, the result is spot on.

Finally, the last look, which we could almost call the “evening look” as Ronisia is radiant inside. This very dark, simple and effective black outfit suits her really well. The tight black dress with a chest cut-out perfectly hugs the silhouette, and if you add the small black handbag with crocodile leather effect, as well as the pair of black sneakers, you get a perfectly balanced look that could work just as well on the street for a stylish walk as in the evening when you want to make a strong impression. One thing is for sure, the singer really spoiled us with this shoot and we never imagined that the grey background could highlight Ronisia and her outfit so much. True professionalism, an irresistible smile, she has everything to become a great influencer in addition to her singing career. We obviously wish her lots of happiness for the future, and at Project X Paris we are really happy to have been able to collaborate with her.
