Project X Paris goes Baroque
You may have noticed in the streets recently, the meeting of baroque style and streetwear produces incredible results. Project X Paris innovated by offering a collection completely inspired by baroque style, and it has appeared everywhere: Ninho, Cyril Hanouna, and even in season 2 of Lupin!
When luxury finesse meets the street Nothing initially destined the street universe to meet baroque style, inspired by the Renaissance era. Originally defining an architectural term, it gradually spread into all layers of creation such as painting, sculpture, and opera. The style is characterized by a sort of exaggeration of details, shapes, with many contrast effects. At first glance, it’s hard to imagine how to adapt this idea to streetwear. And yet. Inspired by recent baroque collections from Italian haute couture brands, Project X Paris decided to adapt the concept to offer a collection very inspired by the street, to the point of being worn for example by Ninho, France’s number 1 rapper today and a true icon of his generation.
The connections between the streetwear and haute couture universes have become much more intense today, and the two worlds influence each other, to the point that rappers can end up collaborating with fashion designers. Baroque style was the perfect opportunity for Project X to offer a capsule that brings together the most “basic” streetwear (tracksuit sets, t-shirts) with the most striking baroque effects. The goal was to create a collection a bit more refined and radically different from what we have revealed so far, while keeping the guiding line of a garment that must remain street. This time, no big logos or tie-dye effects, the work is done through prints directly integrated into the fabric for optimal visual rendering.
The golden details are very present throughout the collection, it’s the most obvious baroque touch. The goal was to make the pieces more “noble” thanks to the effect of very vivid gold reflections, while creating a contrast with very dark colors around the prints to make them stand out better. But very quickly, we realized that it worked almost as well by putting golden prints on white fabrics, like in the tracksuit set worn by Ninho during our last shoot with him. People can therefore choose the color depending on their mood: darker and street look on black/gold, or much more radiant, flashier, on white/gold. Each time, a tracksuit set with a zipped jacket, as well as a small polo with a zipped collar also very effective.
For the occasion, PXP chose to revisit its logo to offer an even more stylish version with a “signature” effect. Last piece of the collection, the inevitable hoodie that Ninho still wears so well. It must be said that between NI and hoodies, it’s a true love story, as often with rappers. At Project X, we are obviously very happy with the positive feedback from artists on this baroque collection. At the same time, the exaggeration of details with contrast, and golden tones, fits well into the rappers’ universe, always in the madness of grandeur. For Ninho, it gives him a little “princely” side that suits him very well, and we really can’t wait to try this kind of experience again with their young prodigy of French rap. But the piece can also be worn more discreetly, like in episode 2 of season 2 of Lupin, during a scene with the very young Assane Diop played by Mamadou Haïdara.
The Barock Club of the Baba Collab collection
But rappers are not the only ones into exaggeration, and Cyril Hanouna, the most lively, exuberant, and energetic host on French TV, won’t tell you otherwise. Never the last when it comes to upping a joke or a nonsense, Cyril, or “Baba” as we now call him, is also a rap, urban culture, and current fashion and streetwear enthusiast. Maybe that’s why he is one of the hosts with a huge popularity: he is close to people and sometimes dresses on set like we might dress in the street. Not many suits in his on-set outfits, but rather trendy streetwear, with stylish zipped jackets and sometimes very exuberant, very street pieces. This second part of the Baba-collab was therefore a piece of cake for us because PXP and Cyril Hanouna expect the same thing from a garment: to stand out.
Baba played along, and he even liked the collab so much that he wore it on set. It must be said that the pieces are very attractive and make a strong impression, while staying in this baroque spirit, with this time some small differences. Rather than limiting the details to a part of the garment (chest/sleeves for the t-shirt for example), we chose to expand them as much as possible and put them all over the garment. The goal was also to offer clothes in a sunnier, more summery mood, and it’s mission accomplished, notably with the two shirts (short or long sleeves) which are really very successful. But we are also very proud of the bomber collar jacket + baroque style tracksuit pants set, which is clearly the most ambitious and innovative piece of this collection. The articulation around the 4 colors blue/white/black/gold with very exaggerated details perfectly embodies the synthesis between the luxurious side of baroque style and the street side. Also available, the Baba-Collab baroque t-shirt is a much more discreet piece, which is surely easier to pair with clothes of another style. We advise you to take advantage of it, because the collection was specially designed for summer, and we are right in it!
