The rap world was buzzing, the wait is finally over. If you opened TikTok or Instagram these past weeks, you couldn’t miss the trend: "C'est pas wa wa". Behind this viral expression was the eventful featuring between Kodes and Himra, an explosive track set to be one of the biggest hits of the year.
Today, the time has come: co-produced by PXP Records (Project X Paris’s music label) and No Cap (Kodes’s label), with distribution by Believe Music, the single "WAWA" is now available on all streaming platforms, and the long-awaited video has just been released!
But who are really the players behind this musical tidal wave? Let’s break it down.
Who is Himra? The phenomenon shaking up the rap industry
If the connection between France and Ivory Coast works so well on this track, it’s largely thanks to Himra. Born Bakayoko Abdul Rahim, the young artist from Cocody (Abidjan) is simply the rapper currently shaking up the African and Francophone industry.
A pioneer of Ivorian drill and creator of his own musical movement (the Majin movement), Himra has experienced a meteoric rise. With his recent project Jeune & Riche, he broke all records in Ivory Coast (gold then platinum record) and won numerous prestigious awards, notably at the African Talent Awards.
With millions of streams and critical acclaim, Himra brings to "WAWA" that raw and modern Ivorian energy that makes the difference. His collaboration with Kodes has sparked many positive reactions, confirming the power of this international partnership.
Kodes and PXP Records: the big comeback!
On the other side of the mic, we find Kodes, a well-known figure at PXP. An iconic figure of the legendary Bâtiment 7 in Évry (the talent pool of the 91), "Le Méchant Kodes" is well known to our teams as he has been part of the Cercle PXP for many years.
After redefining his art with major projects, Kodes is currently very active and marks a strong return to the rap game. This comeback is all the more symbolic for us as he is the very first rapper to trust PXP Records to produce his tracks. This bridge between fashion and music, between Project X Paris and the rap scene, takes on full meaning today with the project "WAWA".
Exceptional virality even before release
The excitement around "WAWA" is unprecedented. From the first excerpts revealed on social media, the numbers exploded:
More than 4,200 videos created by the community on TikTok.
More than 100,000 likes on Kodes’s Instagram post.
To bring this banger to life, the team flew to Himra’s homeland: Ivory Coast. The video shoot turned into a true popular celebration in the streets, gathering more than 15,000 people! The first released images show incredible fervor, perfectly illustrating the street, culture, and unity around the hip-hop movement.
