The group stage is already behind us. Since July 4, each duel is played in a single leg. No return, no catch-up: the 2026 World Cup enters its sharpest zone.

Eight matches follow one another from July 4 to 7, spread across the United States, Mexico, and Canada. Each can eliminate an entire nation in . The format allows no mercy: extra time then penalty shootout if the tie persists.

On July 4 at 11:00 PM, Paris time, France faces Paraguay in Philadelphia, on the pitch of Lincoln Financial Field. Les Bleus approach this round of 16 after sweeping Sweden (3-0) in the round of 32, on June 30 in New York. Opposite, Paraguay secured qualification by eliminating Germany in the previous round: a signal to beware.

On July 6 at 9:00 PM, Portugal and Spain meet in Dallas, in the setting of AT&T Stadium. The two Iberian nations shone in the previous round: Portugal eliminated Croatia, Spain mastered Austria. A clash between two favorites that leaves no room for error.

England, Brazil, Belgium: who will resist the blade?

On July 6 at 2:00 AM (Paris time), Mexico hosts England at Estadio Azteca in Mexico City. The host country plays in front of its crowd, a factor that can weigh heavily against the Three Lions. In terms of form, England eliminated DR Congo in the previous round without trembling.

Brazil faces Norway on July 5 at 10:00 PM at MetLife Stadium in New York. A clash between a Seleçao accustomed to the top and a Norway returning to the biggest stage of world football.

The United States, another host country, challenges Belgium on July 7 at 2:00 AM at Lumen Field, Seattle. Canada opens the ball on July 4 at 7:00 PM against Morocco, at NRG Stadium in Houston. Two last matches, scheduled for July 7 in Atlanta and Vancouver, are still waiting for their qualifiers: the round of 32 barely ends and the round of 16 is already underway.

Did you know?

In case of a tie at the end of regular time, each round of 16 match is played with two 15-minute extra times. If no team pulls ahead, the penalty shootout decides. It is impossible to end in a draw: there must be a winner, at all costs.
