Cyril Gane defeats Pereira: why the Good Kid is reborn?

Washington night, the presidential lawn holds its breath. On this unprecedented stage, a Frenchman comes back from afar: two defeats behind him, a throne to reclaim. On June 14, Cyril Gane floors Alex Pereira and reignites a legend thought to be asleep.

A must-see: the Good Kid sends Pereira to the ground.

From the octagon to the presidential lawn

We have seen the cage placed by the water, on an aircraft carrier, atop skyscrapers. Never on a head of state's lawn. On June 14, 2026, the UFC planted its octagon on the South Lawn of the White House. The first professional sporting event held there, for the 250th anniversary of the United States.

High tension card, massive lineup, geopolitical staging. And in the middle of the blockbuster, a Frenchman who hadn’t lifted anything this heavy in a long time. At Project X Paris, we followed this awakening like a thriller. Cyril Gane entered with a clear mission: to wake up.

Speed versus power: the Good Kid pulls ahead

Alex Pereira was moving up from light heavyweights. His dream: to become the first triple champion in UFC history. Against him, Gane displayed the footwork that made his reputation.

Sharp jab, controlled distance, feints in cascade. Poatan sought his power but found only a handful of low kicks. The speed and variety of the Good Kid kept him off rhythm all round. Clear first round for the Frenchman: cleaner strikes, imposed tempo.

Round 2: the flurry that seals the rebirth

The wake-up call sounds at the bell of the second round. Gane comes out of the corner and charges. A jab with surgical stiffness sends Poatan to the canvas: the only knockdown of the fight.

Pereira gets up, already elsewhere. The Good Kid strings combinations and doesn’t let up. At 1:27, Herb Dean steps in: TKO. Five years after his first interim title in 2021, Cyril Gane reclaims the heavyweight summit.

The numbers of the clash

In two rounds, the imbalance is clear. Gane landed 54 strikes out of 86 attempted (62.8%), versus 12 out of 33 for Pereira (36.4%). Only one man made the other stagger, and it was the Good Kid. This is what a masterclass in distance looks like.

And now? Aspinall and the real summit

Want to know what’s left to conquer? The answer is one name: Tom Aspinall. The undisputed champion was absent, injured in the eyes.

Upon his return, unification is obvious. The Good Kid positions himself as the number one contender, interim belt around his waist. The Washington awakening was just a prologue: the real summit has a name, and it will have to be claimed.

THE GOOD KID IS REBORN

Two defeats had put his legend to sleep. A flurry on the White House lawn just reignited it. The interim throne is only a step, the true resurrection is already being written against Aspinall.
