Casa de Papel: the phenomenon series

For those who don’t know it yet, everything begins with a mysterious man called the Professor and his ingenious yet risky plan. The famous Netflix series that doesn’t give you a second to breathe. Straight from Spain, this show has, in just 4 years, become the phenomenon everyone is talking about.

A remarkable appetizer, "La Casa de Papel" has established itself as the most popular series of the moment! Robbery, gunfire, unexpected twists—this is the recipe for its success. The plot, if you haven’t figured it out yet, starts with the adventure of eight robbers whose goal is to leave with money they printed themselves.

Of course, the police won’t let them succeed. The beginning of the series is simple yet sparks curiosity. The further you go, the more you realize that the Professor might actually be credible with the theories he presents to his team.

The mask also symbolizes the painter’s madness, as well as his idea of breaking rules, just like the Professor. Salva (the Professor) references the Indignados and their protest movements at Puerta del Sol, and even says he is "the grandson of an Italian partisan." The show’s anthem, "Bella Ciao," dates back to World War II. It was written by Italian revolutionaries who fought against German forces allied with the Italian fascist movement. The use of this song is highly symbolic. This choice shows the robbers’ desire not to steal from the people. In season 3, we see Berlin and the Professor sing "Guantanamera" by Compay Segundo. It’s a nod to Guantanamo prisons, infamous for violence and torture methods, and of course the robbers’ will to act differently, without violence. Their jumpsuits could also be seen as reminiscent of prisoner uniforms. Red is the color of passion and revolution. Despite all these symbols, their goals are far from revolutionary. These "heroes" simply want to enjoy their millions and live a dream life.
