While fashion trends are inspired more than ever by the "classic" models of the past, we decided at Project X Paris to pay a tribute to a key style of streetwear from the 80s and 90s: the University style. Coming straight from the States, it quickly flooded the world, and we revisit it through our new capsule.
We know that fashion is an eternal restart, a kind of great cycle, and it is not rare to see old flagship pieces updated and made a hit again. But there are also timeless pieces that work all the time. The University style, directly imported from American universities, is a bit of both categories: not always at the top of the trend, but never out of fashion either, because it is an iconic style, conveyed by dozens of movies, rap videos. It must be said that in the United States, belonging to a particular college is a real identity marker, much more than in France. Universities are in competition (often in sports) and claiming one's belonging through one's clothes is really part of the American culture.
This may explain, for example, the rather large size of the logos or names present on the "uniforms" of American students. We are proud to wear the clothes of where we come from, it reinforces the group spirit, or rather the clan spirit. The university style, it is at the same time old school and timeless, it is also to assume a rather sporting dress, rather versatile, dynamic. Because obviously, sportsmen (baseball, basketball, American soccer) are in the front line when it comes to wearing the colors of their college. If we add to all this the fact that at the moment, we observe a strong comeback of the bomber jacket, iconic piece of streetwear par excellence, we understand that everything agrees to bring you a beautiful capsule "University" at PXP, which will mark the spirits. Focus on this novelty that is already a hit.
The combination of old and new
We've been able to prove it recently, depending on how you combine it, the University style can be either rather young or rather vintage, depending on what you like. We saw this during the shooting with Boris Becker and Kader Diaby, two artists not exactly of the same generation. The first one had an incredibly 90's style, which reminds us of the outfits of several clips of New York rappers of this great period, with the black and white bomber jacket for men, accompanied by wide jeans with a white shirt. The second opted for a radically younger style, more colorful, more exuberant with this alliance of green and white, with the pair of Jordan matched with the bomber jacket for a very successful effect. The whole, there again with a large jean, because the "imposing" side of the bomber allows precisely to be able to opt for pants with a larger cut. A rare thing at a time when slim jeans and slim-fitting jeans seem to be the rule.
But obviously, a good capsule in the University style does not stop at a bomber, even if it is the most iconic piece. The hoodies are also part of the party, it is almost inevitable. Several models are available, and in several colors each time, for matching tops. We have the hoodie rather classic, with the logo rather large and highlighted on the chest, and also the number 15 (the same typography as for the Bombers). With, of course, the matching tracksuit bottoms, we will come back to that. But we also have the SQUAD capsule, which takes up the university codes with new logos, new typography and even new pieces, like the round neck sweatshirt, or the t-shirt.

Pieces that are worth a look, with their very innovative and effective design. We first focus on the crew neck sweatshirt, one of the greatest successes of the capsule. The little touch of originality, which makes our identity at Project X Paris, is located on the logo. Or rather, on the superposition of the different logos on the chest: the PXP Squad is the most massive, the one that best represents the American university clothing. Above, we have a "Project X Paris" in smaller, and below, slightly mixed with the central logo, we have the signature logo of the brand, in large size but in fine writing. Again, we also have the women's or men's tracksuits suit that goes with it, designed especially for the occasion.
A timeless mixed collection
This is one of the main features of the University capsule : almost all the pieces are available in men's and women's versions, with specific sizes and cuts. And some pieces, like the tracksuit sets, are unisex, and can be worn by both men and women, with the possibility of making a hit thanks to a "couple outfit" cleverly studied. And each time, we have several colors available, depending on what you prefer. The shootings made with our models in sunny environments have also shown us that the collection remained effective regardless of the season, with colors that work really well. Small precision: the logos are a little smaller on the models of PXP Squad Tee-Shirt, in a concern of smoothness.

At Project X, we are delighted to have had the opportunity to release a University capsule in tribute to these American clothes that have rocked our youth, and probably yours too, through movies and music videos made in the USA. We are even more delighted to have been able to test all this to Boris Becker and Kader Diaby, during a shooting that will remain in our memories. Because this college style is a real must-have in streetwear, to have in your wardrobe!
