An unavoidable phenomenon of urban culture since the 70s (and even before), street art has a special place among the 5 disciplines that make up hip hop. Now a recognized art form, it is popular and respected the world over. Street art also has a major influence on the world of fashion, and at PXP we've decided to pay tribute to it with some very successful capsules.

From the streets of New York to art galleries around the world

Tagging, graffiti, or street art as it's more generically known today, has left its mark on the world's cultural landscape. The phenomenon is far from new, and people were already drawing on walls in the Lascaux caves, or during the great demonstrations of the 20th century. But these drawings always had another purpose: to celebrate an event, or convey a political message. From the 70s onwards, graffiti took a major artistic turn, with no ambition other than the aesthetic and transgressive (the practice remains banned in many places to this day). Whether simply marking one's name in stylized letters, or creating a real mural with characters, street artists multiplied and their art spread everywhere.

Graffiti is one of the 5 pillars of hip-hop culture, along with breakdance, rap, DJing and beatboxing. Along with rap and dance, it's obviously one of the most successful disciplines, since street art doesn't necessarily require a lot of equipment to get started, just like rapping or dancing. Graffiti quickly became very popular, and is a true generational phenomenon, with almost everyone who was a teenager in the 80s and 90s trying their hand at it. Today, the phenomenon has become so inescapable that even the most renowned contemporary art museums have been forced to open their doors to street art, after having long regarded the discipline in a haughty manner. Street art is inextricably linked with the aesthetics of hip-hop, and has therefore also had a considerable influence on the most modern designers and fashion creators, as well as brands.

Streetart capsules at PXP

At Project X Paris, our love of street art goes back a long way. Almost 3 years ago, we unveiled a mini-capsule inspired by the world of graffiti. Grand seigneur, it's Koba La D who came to give us strength for an anthology shoot, carried out by Fifou himself, the king of photos in the French rap game. Since then, we've beefed up our game even further, taking advantage of the 2022 season to unveil 3 street-art inspired capsules. The first one we're going to talk about is the new capsule Graffiti. A small men's collection that smells of summer, with its rather bright colors, like the green or purple gradient Graffiti t-shirt. Which you can of course match with the matching Graffiti shorts, or the tracksuit bottoms, also in the same colors. Graffiti motifs cover all the pieces, making this capsule a future streetwear staple for PXP, with our trademark exuberance.

The second capsule we're going to talk about is the Splash. Once again, the collection is directly inspired by street art, with "paint stain" motifs that nod to the somewhat destroy aesthetic often associated with street art. The motifs surround the "Project X Paris" logo on the torso, but the whole thing remains fairly sober and minimalist, which means that the pieces are sober and rather classy, like the round-neck sweatshirt with logo and spots in print, in its white or beige colorway. If you want to be a little more relaxed, the round-neck t-shirt with logo and paint stains in print is perfect for that. Again, it's available in 3 colors - white, beige or black - to match with jeans, and why not a jacket to complete the look. Once again, the collection is geared towards men's streetwear.

Finally, the third capsule, which is perhaps the most ambitious, and above all the most advanced in terms of the various small details present on the pieces. The capsule is called Underground The Project X Paris logo has been completely revisited, and even completed with a huge graffiti "STREET", drawn in homage to the art of tagging. This mid-season capsule features 4 pieces: a men's hoodie in 3 colors (pink, white and black). There's also a designer t-shirt, again in the same colors. Finally, for bottoms, we've got streetart-print shorts and streetart-print tracksuit bottoms, in the same color ranges, for successful outfits. Numerous motifs, logos and lettering have been added in strategic places: on the torso, sides, hood and sleeves. A practice at the cutting edge of the trend since the explosion of Off White, a brand also inspired by street art and urban cultures. We're particularly fond of the hoodie, the centerpiece of the streetwear collection, which can be combined with many things, while remaining a garment that is far from neutral.

Street art at almost all our events

As you'll have gathered, we at PXP love the world of street art, and we try to include a little of it in every event we organize. Especially when we celebrate the opening of a new shop. For several years now, these openings have always created quite a buzz, notably with the arrival of certain stars. But also thanks to the various personalization workshops we now offer quite often. Like recently, with the opening of the Project X Paris shop in Honfleur Normandy Outlet. The opening was a resounding success, with a huge turnout on the weekend of March 11-13, 2022. So much so, in fact, that the other stores in the center congratulated us on our dynamism. The entertainment was incredible: DJ Tiskaz provided the musical ambience, and K€Z@ did customization work on sneakers and streetwear accessories.

Young local influencers like CallMeParadise also joined the party, and PXP really got a lot of traction on this streetwear-focused shop opening. In keeping with our love of street art, a graphic artist created a splendid portrait of Bosh, one of the muses of Project X Paris, during the opening of our Perpignan shop. We're obviously delighted to be able to build bridges between street art, streetwear and urban cultures through little events like these, or in our collections. And we hope there will be many more street artists to inspire us all!
