The history of polo

The polo shirt was originally designed for the sport of polo. It was inspired by the shirts worn by polo players in India in the early 20th century. The model as we know it today was democratized in 1926 thanks to the collaboration between tennis player René Lacoste and industrialist André Gillier. This unisex top became a symbol of sportswear chic. Street-style profiles also adopt it for its classy, casual look.

What makes a good polo shirt?

- Short sleeves

With a polo shirt with ribbed sleeves, the garment remains comfortable but is much more fitted at the end of the sleeves to hold it in place. For slim, muscular body types, polo shirts are ideal, as they follow the shape of muscles without having to go down a size to make them visible.

- The turned-down collar

Originally, the collar was raised to protect tennis players from the sun. It is now rarely used for this purpose. It adds style. Buttoned up for a chic look, partially open for a relaxed style.

Marcel, tank top or singlet... a look back at history

The tank top is a French creation. That's right! It was Marcel Eisenberg, owner of a hosiery firm, who began mass-producing the tank top that would bear his first name. He was inspired by a clever warehouseman who arrived with a woollen sweater whose sleeves he'd cut off to free up shoulder mobility. In France, we use the term "marcel" to designate this garment, as well as tank tops and sleeveless T-shirts. Meanwhile, in the United States, the equivalent of the Marcel is called the "singlet".

Initially a symbol of the working man, the tank top enjoyed dazzling success thanks to actor Marlon Brandon in "Un tramway nommé Désir", and became the symbol of the virile, sexy man.
